Upon successful completion of this two-year program and an end of program assessment, students will receive advanced placement in the OCVTS Adult Education Division Apprenticeship Program.Software at Sign Making Equipment and Supplies VE-LXI-APP-12. Cooperative Education opportunities and transition assistance into apprenticeship training and work placement are integral to this program. The safe use of tools and industry work practices will be stressed.
An introduction to the National Electrical Code, as applied to residential and light commercial wiring is part of the program therefore, strong math and language skills are recommended. Code requirements and installation methods for various types of cables, conduits (both flexible and non-flexible), and service equipment will be addressed. Load calculations for residences and small commercial buildings will be taught. The fundamental theory and application of alternating and direct current circuits, test equipment, transformers, motors, and various types of control devices for power, and lighting are emphasized. Renewable energies and commercial wiring are touched upon. The scope of this course deals primarily with residential one- and two-family dwelling unit electrical systems. With the addition of new equipment such as Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) machinery and software, the students will be taking the next step into this exciting and dynamic career field. Students will then learn to complete custom molding projects, built in furnishings and installation of decorative elements such as kitchen cabinetry, tile installation and ornamental wood design.
Beyond the fundamentals, our students develop a proficiency in remodeling techniques, basic drywall projects, safe and proper use of power tools, woodworking machines and hands on skills. This program enables students to learn the basics of project design and layout, while also teaching them the necessary skills for a successful career in woodworking, finished carpentry and related trades. Students utilize our shop to develop proficiency in all aspects of custom carpentry and woodworking.
This program engages students in all aspects of custom carpentry as it relates to woodworking fabrication and related installation and design techniques.
